Mini-lights
Mini-lights are the most commonly used light string used for the holiday season as well as other seasonal lighting projects. It is also used by many designers and event planners for decorative lighting.
There are various types of lighting but they all are either “Stacking” or “End to End”.
- A Stacking mini-light has a male plug at one end for power and on the back side of the plug is the female insert. Most stacking mini-lights are used to hand from ceilings or disperse in all directions from a power source.
- End to End has a male plug at one end (with the female on its backside) but also has a female plug at the end of the strand. This allows you to plug one strand into the previous and continue to string lighting.
All UL rated mini-lights have fuses.
- All UL mini-lights have either a replaceable fuse or built in fuse on the strand for safety purposes.
- Should you exceeded the allowable number of strands you can connect, usually 3, the fuse will blow to protect the consumer from the chance the strand could overheat and cause a fire.
Cords for the mini-light are usually either white or green.
- White corded mini-lights are most often used for weddings, icicle effects or with white garland Christmas trees.
- The green corded is usually used for outside purposes to light trees and bushes. They are also the favorite light we use to light our indoor Christmas trees and garlands.
- We do sell brown corded mini-lights which are used with grapevine wreaths, grapevine balls and grapevine cone trees.
The length of mini-light strands depends on the number of lights on the strand and the spacing between the bulbs. Most mini-lights are 4 to 6 inch spacing on the strand and usually are either a 50 light or 100 light set. KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE REALLY ISN’T A 100 LIGHT SET BUT 2 FIFTY LIGHT SETS USING THE SAME POWER SOURCE. That is why on a 100 light set ½ the strand will go out and the other half remains lit. As you can see, we recommend the 50 light sets although the 100 light set is available and widely used as well.
The average mini-light bulb is approximately ½ of a watt. So a 50 light set would be 25 watts. A 100 light set is 50 watts of light.
Mini-lights because they are manufactured oversees in various plants are not interchangeable. Each company has a “mold” it produces the strand and particularly the socket from. That mold is unique and not any other mini-light bulb is going to fit in that socket but their own. Many consumers try to use bulbs from another company to replace a bad bulb only to have them fall out or not fit at all.
We offer both a standard mini-light and mini-lights with snap locks. The snap lock style is more expensive and is meant to keep vandals from easily pulling the bulbs out.
We offer mini-lights in clear, multi-color, red, green, blue, amber/gold, yellow, purple and pink. Also, we offer Theme color combinations like red, purple, gold. Check out the Theme various combinations. They are really unique and beautiful.
For those of you who use a large amount of mini-lights the BLUE BOX is a must have. It works wonderfully with 50 light sets to detach where a bulb is bad and makes repair of existing mini-light a snap.
